This chapter covers live animals of every kind: horses, bovine animals, swine, sheep and goats, poultry, and any other live animal not listed separately. What decides classification here is that the animal is alive, not the species. The chapter note carves out only three exceptions; everything else alive belongs in Chapter 1.

The first six digits of every code in this chapter are the same in every country that applies the Harmonized System. The chapter has 6 headings and 102 twelve-digit codes (2026 schedule).
The range is always computed WITHIN a single column: showing the EU column and the all-other-countries column as one range would misstate the duty. The binding rate depends on the twelve-digit code and the country of origin.
